About Me
Guihan Larsen’s short stories have been included in three anthologies, most recently, “Hidden” has been published in the Spout Press Anthology, Locker Room Talk: Women in Private Spaces. Originally from Mount Prospect, Illinois, she honed her writing skills during her years spent on a nomadic journey through California, from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Her work explores working-class tumult with themes of violence, adolescence, and abandonment.
Her work has been recognized by fellowships from Columbia University, the Louise and Leonard Riggio Foundation, the Ucross Foundation, and the Elizabeth George Foundation. Her stories have appeared in EcoTheo Review, Catapult Magazine, and Post Road Magazine. Her flash fiction piece, “Messages,” placed 3rd in the Wow! Women on Writing Contest. Additionally, her short story, “San Man,” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and won second place in New Rivers Press' American Fiction, Vol. 15: Best Unpublished Stories by New and Emerging Writers. “Urban Guerrillas” was a finalist for the Third Coast Magazine Jaimy Gordon Prize in Fiction, judged by Antonya Nelson. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Columbia University.
She serves as an editor/reader at Columbia’s Exchange Magazine for incarcerated or formerly incarcerated writers and has been a teacher/lecturer at Columbia University and Barnard College, where she taught a class on Violence in Literature. She is currently seeking representation for her literary fiction novel.
